General Vital Record (Birth, Death, Marriage) information is available on the NY State Health Department web presence
For vital records originated in the City of Plattsburgh, the fees and response to you in receiving a copy of a document are less than applying through the NY State Health Department. For most documents there is a $10.00 U.S. fee and the turn-around is a day or two if the request is in order.
As conditions and requirements are sometimes overlapping and convoluted, you may wish to contact us directly by phone during normal business hours (below); most times, a phone conversation can speed your application process (we’ll know the circumstances and you’ll know exactly what is required to receive the document). While not a requirement, for the return of a single document, we would request that you furnish a self-addressed stamped envelope. The return of multiple documents may require additional postage. You may request general information about our records by email:   Fees:  If no record is on file, a No Record Certification is issued and the fee is not refunded.  We cannot verify in advance whether a record is or is not on file.
Genealogical searches are conducted on a time basis and conducted around active document requests. Again, conditions and requirements are sometimes overlapping and convoluted; you may wish to contact us directly by phone during normal business hours (below) for more information. Our birth, death, and marriage records start with the year 1885.  Fee:  $22.00 includes search and uncertified copy or notification of no record.
Marriage License Applications
8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Monday through Friday
$40.00 fee; both parties must be present at same time; official identification is required (driver’s license, passport, etc.), certified copies of birth certificates and for those previously married, a certified copy of the divorce or death document for the previous marriage is required. Depending on how busy we are at the time, the process takes about twenty minutes to complete. Please call ahead for specific information regarding the licensing process; we can supply a listing of local justices and marriage officials within the area at the time of licensing. The license is issued the same day – there is a twenty-four clock hour waiting period (from the time you receive your license) before you can be married. The marriage license is valid for New York State only.
Dog Licenses
In accordance with NYS Law, all dogs over the age of 4 months must be inoculated for rabies and licensed within the municipality in which they are harbored. Proof of rabies vaccination and the spayed/neutered condition of the animal (if applicable) are required to be presented at the time of licensing. The current yearly fee for Neutered/Spayed animals is $8.50; otherwise $15.50. Call for further information.
