(PLATTSBURGH- November 8th, 2023) - The City of Plattsburgh marked the conclusion of the Margaret Street construction project this past weekend with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. The City would like to issue a reminder to those traveling downtown to be aware of the new traffic pattern on Margaret Street.
Ribbon Cutting
The City of Plattsburgh held a Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Saturday October 28th to acknowledge the conclusion of the project. The Mayor of Plattsburgh, Christopher Rosenquest welcomed the public and thanked all those involved including the lead engineering firm, C&S Companies, the lead contractor on the project, Rifenburg Construction, City Staff, The Public Advisory Committee and the many residents and business owners who reside in downtown Plattsburgh for their patience and perseverance throughout the project.
The Mayor was joined by Ali Webbinaro, representative to Governor Hochul in the North County, Assemblyman Billy Jones, North Country Chamber of Commerce President, Garry Douglas, ARC Executive Director Robin Pierce, Community Advocate Marc Fournier and owners of downtown business, 1UP Arcade and Pub. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Mayor presented Kelli McArdell, lead engineer on the project with the designation of being an honorary member of the City of Plattsburgh The Mayor also awarded City staff member, Andrew Durrin, Assistant Supervisor of the Department of Public Works with a key to the City. Mr. Durrin and Ms. McArdell demonstrated exemplary work on the project.
Final Items to be Completed
While the majority of the construction work has been completed, construction crews will be completing final items on the project in the next two weeks. This includes finishing the insides of manholes and storm sewer structures, installing street lights, and grouting cracks between sidewalks and buildings. In the Spring of 2024, crews will be back on site to install signal mast arms for the Broad/Margaret, Cornelia/Margaret and Oak/Brinkerhoff intersections, pedestrian crossing poles, and repouring a section of stamped and dyed concrete on Court Street.
New Traffic Pattern
The City would like to remind those who are traveling downtown to be mindful of the new traffic pattern on Margaret Street that is now in effect. Margaret Street, between Court Street and Brinkerhoff Street is southbound only. The stop light at the intersection of Margaret Street and Brinkerhoff Street has been removed and is now a three-way stop. Please obey traffic signs and signals accordingly.
Impacted Business Revolving Loan Fund
On October 27th, the City of Plattsburgh closed the applications for the Impacted Business Revolving Loan Fund (IBRLF). The IBRLF was created for downtown businesses in the affected area of construction and offers low and no interest loans up to $30,000. The City received a total of seven applications and will be reviewing those applications in the coming weeks.
